Shiva - Amerika wake up, wake up Amerika!!!

ACLU Action
Friend—

Last week we filed a case on behalf of three torture victims against the two psychologists who designed and ran the CIA torture program during the Bush administration in violation of the law, their ethical obligations, and basic human decency.

The CIA-contracted psychologists, James Mitchell and John “Bruce” Jessen, helped convince the agency to adopt torture as official policy, and they made millions of dollars doing it.

Holding these men accountable is important for our clients and all who believe that a medical professional’s ethical obligation requires them to “first, do no harm.” But even more must be done.

It’s time that we hold all those responsible for authorizing and overseeing the implementation of torture accountable. A special prosecutor is the most comprehensive way to do that.

Sign the petition telling the Attorney General to assign a special prosecutor for a full criminal investigation of the torture program today.

Many of the victims of CIA torture are still recovering from their terrible suffering. They have received no government apology, assistance, or other form of accountability for violations of their most basic, fundamental human rights.

One of our clients continues to be plagued by debilitating flashbacks to CIA black sites. Another has difficulty walking for long periods of time. A third man died as a result of torture – his family, who we are representing, has never been officially notified of his death, or received his body in order to give him a proper burial.

There has been no top-to-bottom criminal investigation of those in the Bush administration who authorized torture, conspired to commit it with psychologists Mitchell and Jessen, and directly tortured our fellow human beings.

No one should be above the law or beyond its reach, no matter how senior the official. Yet none of those who authorized the use of torture or oversaw its implementation have ever been charged with a crime.

We can’t undo the damage that was done, but we can demand justice for the survivors. The case we filed today is one step in that direction, but assigning a special prosecutor is necessary for all victims and our country, so that we can truly hold all abusers to account.

Ask our Attorney General to appoint a special prosecutor now:
